The Point is Palos Verdes High School’s student-run newspaper! The journalism class publishes seven issues a year, both in print and online. The newspaper is made up of five sections: News, Features, Opinion, Sports, and Centerspread (focuses on a specific topic across several articles). Journalism students create the entire publication: they come up with story ideas, write and edit articles, take photos, make graphics, and design the entire layout of the paper using InDesign and Photoshop. You have the chance to write about topics you are passionate about and want to share with the student body. Positions on the staff include writer, photographer, illustrator, section editor, and Editor-in-Chief. The class is unique because it is made up of students from every grade level, allowing for upperclassmen to mentor underclassmen. Every year, we travel to student journalism conventions across the country, and we hope to resume that once it is safe to do so. Conventions in the past have been held in Seattle, Washington DC , Orlando, Nashville, and more! As members of The Point staff, students strengthen their writing, get to talk with a variety of people through interviews, contribute something positive to their community, and develop leadership skills.
