Joe Pinkelman received his BFA with an emphasis in sculpture from Colorado State University.   He received his MFA in ceramics from UCLA.  Prior to teaching at Palos Verdes High School, Joe taught at University High School in Los Angeles.  Joe was the first hired art teacher at PVHS when it reopened in 2002.  He currently is teaching ceramics, sculpture, AP 3-D Design, and AP Art History.  Joe also started a glass blowing program and just completed a surf board shaping shed.  The 2011/2012 school year marks Joe’s 17th year of teaching and he is happy to be part of the Sea King family.

Jennifer Warren attended CSU Fullerton where she completed a BFA in arts education and her fine arts credential. Jennifer teaches and practices 2-d and 3-d arts including drawing, painting, silk-screening, printmaking, and sculpture. She joined the PVHS faculty in 2008 after teaching in Fountain Valley. Jennifer is grateful to be working in a community that supports the arts, and is amazed by the talented and dedicated students at her school. Courses Taught: Drawing and Painting, Drawing and Painting 2, Sculpture 1, Printmaking, AP Studio Art 2-d and Drawing.

Courses

visual_arts_sculpture_181Sculpture I, II: Students are introduced to a variety of sculptural mediums that include clay, wood, plaster, metal, and welding. Sculpture II students have the opportunity to work more independently on their own ideas or they can concentrate on surf board shaping.

red abstract human figureAP 3-D Design:  Students in ceramics and sculpture are encouraged to take AP 3-D design.  Students submit a portfolio of 16 three-dimensional works in May and are eligible for college credit. Ceramics I or Sculpture I is a prerequisite.
